Layers in Solesca

Layers are the geographic data that make up a Solesca design. There are four kinds of layers:

  1. Fields: Areas that contain PV panels.
  2. Obstructions: Areas that remove PV panels.
  3. Imports: KML/KMZ files that have been imported from external sources.
  4. Images: Any kind of raster graphic (JPEG, PNG, PDF) that is overlaid on the map.
  5. Batteries: An attached battery to a wiring zone. If AC, there will be area visualization.

The Layers Panel

To view the layers of your design in Solesca, you can use the Layers Panel. This can be expanded by click the layers icon in the upper-left of your design. In here, you can rename, reorder, group, toggle visibility, and delete all components of your design.

Hiding layers

An important feature of Solesca is the ability to hide layers. When you hover over a layer in the layers panel, an "eye" icon will appear. If you click it, the layer will be hidden. This not only means that you won't see the layer, but it won't be included in any simulation. A hidden layer is effectively the same as a deleted layer, with the difference being that you can easily bring back a hidden layer at any time by clicking on the "eye" icon again.

The Toolbar

You will find the Toolbar at the top of the Design Editor. In here, from left to right, you have various buttons:

  • Solesca icon: Return to the main project, or sign out.
  • Default mode: The default cursor, allows you to drag around on the map or edit existing layers.
  • Field drawing mode: Allows you to draw new fields.
  • Obstruction drawing mode: Allows you to draw new obstructions.
  • Battery mode: Allows you insert a battery and draw it (if AC).
  • Tree drawing mode: Allows you to draw trees, which are specific kinds of obstructions that are circular.
  • Map view mode: Enables you to access Solesca's GIS features.
  • Comment mode: Allows you to leave location-tagged comments directly on the design.
