Solesca Wiring
Solesca has the ability to give you preliminary wiring estimates based on your equipment layout.
Enable wiring
Click the wire icon in the top-right corner of the screen to run and visualize wiring for your system. In design view, default wiring configuration values are used; in engineering mode, your configuration is used to wire the system properly.
Wiring configuration
You can modify the wiring configuration to achieve optimal wiring schedules. Here you can set the material type, installation method, suggested minimum wire size, and automatic wire upsizing.
The material and installation type matter for us calculating if the wire size complies with the NEC and for calculating losses. Each wire we size and calculate is verified with the NEC using equipment amperages and voltages and the project location's temperature to ensure compliance.
You can either have us find the minimum wire size allowed by code or suggest a minimum wire size yourself. We will automatically check if the minimum wire size is possible for that wire and if it is not possible we will automatically upsize it to the smallest allowable wire size.
You can also have us check the wire for its specific loss. You can have us automatically upsize the wire until the string loss is below a set cutoff. For example, if you set this to be on and a wire loss of 1.5% and a minimum wire size of AWG12, we will automatically upsize any wire from AWG12 to AWG10 (or 8, 6, ...) until a wire loss for that wire is less than or equal to 1.5%.
DC Wiring
You can visualize and download DC wiring for strings to Inverters/Combiners and Combiners to inverters when you are within engineering mode. You can download the wiring schedule by clicking on downloads and DC String to export to CSV.
Wiring placing equipment
In engineering mode, wiring is also used to place equipment for rooftops, canopies, and ground mount systems.
When you click on the wiring icon the inverters (or combiners if ground mount with combiners) will automatically populate on the map for you.
Wire losses
Since we now calculate the wiring losses, you can apply these to the design using the toggle within the wiring dropdown. When enabled, any Solesca-calculated wiring losses will be set as your DC and AC Ohmic losses in the advanced tab.
